Support Group For Parents 1 month, 3 weeks agoHello!! My son was diagnosed about a month ago and he is 5 years old.. I saw the first seizure only a month before that… Has anyone else gone through the same thing where your child is completely healthy (that you knew of) for the first 5 years of his life and then out of nowhere he has a seizure? I dont understand that…
-
My daughter had her first seizure 5 months ago at age 3. I recently met a girl that had her first seizure at 8. My doctor says the younger they are the better chance that they will grow out of it during high-school. Think of it as a possible blessing that he is so young. I pray your sons seizures are manges by meds.

Support Group For Parents 2 months agoSomething has been on my mind. Parents…how do you feel about your child with Epilepsy going away to college? Or are you a parent of a college age student? I will be honest, it scares the daylights out of me and my husband. Luckily our daughter is only 3 so we have some time before that becomes a reality.

Linda, I do hope some of the other parents with us here in the U can help you on the tremors with some answers for you and your son.
-
Welcome Linda. I didn’t see where your original post was. Can you tell me what your questions are?
-
Hi Pamela..it was actually in reply to another persons post asking if anyone else’s child had tremors. I was just chiming in that mine did but we didn’t really have a good explanation as to why. I believe they’ve become worse lately with meds
-
I am sorry to hear that. I hope that you find an answer to your questions.

Support Group For Parents 4 months, 4 weeks agoHow was everyone’s Christmas??
-
Great and thanks for asking. How was yours? Happy New Year.
-
We had a wonderful Christmas too! Sabrina didn’t have a seizure on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day which was a wonderful gift to us all! We were able to take her to her first Christmas Day Mass which she enjoyed. I am ready for 2012 to be over with so we are making the best of these final days. Happy New Year to you and your family!
-
I saw where she went to Mass with you. I am so happy she didn’t seize for all of you this Christmas! How wonderful, I will pray that it keeps up for her and you both.

Support Group For Parents 5 months agoHello there. Our 3 year old son was diagnosed with epilepsy 5 months ago after he suddenly started having seizures (3-4 a day) Up until then, we didn’t notice anything except maybe some times when he “zoned out”. His seizures have been classified as “complex partial seizures”. Mainly in his neck/face region.
He was originally prescribed Keppra.…[Read more]-
Welcome to the “U” Jim. I am sorry to hear about your sons diagnosis and difficulties finding the right medication. Unfortunately with Epilepsy there doesn’t always seem to be just one medication that will work, most of the time he will need a “cocktail” of drugs to help. My daughter is 3 1/2. She has Epilepsy, was diagnosed at almost a…[Read more]

Support Group For Parents 5 months agoAs a parent of a child with epilepsy if you had to share one thing with other parents want you have learned what would it be?
-
I’m not sure I fully understand the question…one thing that I have learned that I would share with other parents (maybe that just found out that their child has Epilepsy) is that there is a huge support network out there. The “U”, your local Epilepsy Association, social networks etc. You don’t ever need to fee alone. It is scary at times…[Read more]

Thanks Pamela. That is exactly the kind of answers I would love people to share with others that are new to this.

Magnesium valproate targets the neurological system, which alters the chemical composition in your brain to help prevent seizures. Valproate Acid has been around for many years as a very good agent to control seizures. According to some studies the addition of magnesium has improved the efficacy of it for certain types of seizures. It is a very…[Read more]
