League of Denial – PBS FRONTLINE’s Concussion Watch

League of Denial – PBS FRONTLINE’s Concussion Watch

Head Injuries have been a part of Football, and therefore the NFL, for a long time.  Head injuries sustained during time as a ball player have lead to devastating brain diseases and early deaths. Conditions that past NFL players have been diagnosed with after head injury include epilepsy, schizophrenia, narcolepsy, Alzheimer’s, dementia, etc. The list goes on.

PBS FRONTLINE has a new video series and several pages of information covering the Concussion Crisis. This article summates the information that PBS has published and includes links to some of the important pages.

There is a new condition to describe the injuries that these players receive that lead to neurodegenerative disease. CTE or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.  The disease has been described to have 4 stages. Click here or on the image below to view the gallery that explains the stages.

So far there have been 36 reported concussions in the NFL this year, here is a breakdown of the injuries by position, click here or the image below to view the interactive info-graphic.
